FR Pour que, faible comme je suis, je ne laisse pas ma tête aller à tous les vents, cédant au moindre souffle qu’elle rencontre, il faudrait que tout fût immobile autour de moi ou que, lancé comme une toupie qui ronfle, le mouvement même me rendit inaccessible aux choses extérieures […] lorsqu’en train de tourner lentement sur moi-même j’essaye de me lancer, un rien, un mot, un récit, un journal, une visite m’arrêtent, m’empêchent de devenir gyroscope ou toupie […] et peuvent reculer ou retarder à jamais l’instant où, pourvu d’une vitesse suffisante, je pourrai malgré ce qui m’entoure me concentrer en moi-même. »
