FR À une époque où les innovations technologiques en termes d’éclairage sont de plus en plus performantes et omniprésentes, créant une confusion entre le jour et la nuit, la bougie, autrefois purement fonctionnelle, continue de fasciner.

Je me souviens quand j’étais petite et qu’il y avait parfois des coupures de courant. Je me plaignais alors à ma mère, qui allumait une bougie, en lui disant : Maman, je ne vois rien, je ne peux pas continuer mes devoirs…

Je me suis particulièrement intéressée à cette situation : une coupure de courant nous pousse à certains ralentissements parce que, forcément, elle nous empêche d’exercer nos activités comme d’habitude. Le changement de qualité des moments nous plonge dans un monde différent et brise la routine quotidienne. C’est une bonne excuse pour « ne rien faire ».

I remember when I was little and there were occasional power outages. I would complain to my mother, who would light a candle, saying to her “Mom, I can’t see anything, I can’t continue my homework…”

I was particularly interested in this situation: a power outage forces us to slow down because it inevitably prevents us from carrying out our activities as usual. The change in the quality of moments plunges us into a different world and breaks the daily routine. It’s a good excuse for “doing nothing.”
